The SnakeWHIP
Otherwise known as a blacksnake, pocket snake, or shot whip is a forgotten whip of the cattlemen. This whip was used on foot while working teams, or in the cattle yard. The snake whip lacks the rigid handle of the bullwhip, but is otherwise similar. This allows it to be coiled (hence the name) and put into a saddle bag, or concealed large pocket. Whips are not weapons. But, the snake whip, historically, was the exception to the rule. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Cattlemen in Australia , living in areas where violence was common, used snake whips for protection. Not for whipping, but for cracking skulls! This use is reflected in the design of this modern snake whip. This is a throwback to the days when they were made for use as a blackjack as well as for working animals.
This whip keeps the dark spirit of its namesake, with a large knob complete with a 1/4 pound lead weight for "balance".
The whip must be handled with extreme care, as it will deliver a devastating blow.
